The original idea of organising this cruise reunion was initiated by Chow Ji Liang 曹吉 良 so that his siblings could encourage  their elder brother Chow Ji Wah 曹吉華 to take his first cruise vacation. Unfortunately, while on vacation in Panama City, Panama Kat’s wife fell and fractured her kneecap which required immediate surgery, therefore, they had to cancel the cruise.

A small group of KBCHMS Alumni embarked on a memorable journey from March 24 to March 29, 2017 aboard the Royal Caribbean cruise ship “Ovation of the Seas” for a Mini Cruise Reunion (Singapore -Penang- Phuket- Singapore).

First group photo on the very afternoon arriving on board the cruise ship Ovation Of The Seas on 24 March 2017; after that we all split  up and went off to our assembly points for an emergency drill! This was a compulsory exercise that every passenger is counted by logging each sea pass upon arriving to the point of assembly.

Felicitations “Captain” SeeKui for successfully orchestrating the “Reunion” Cruise 🚢 on board the Royal Caribbean – Ovation of the Seas. Mind you, we had thoroughly enjoyed it even though it lasted only for a short six days.
Having the entire group singing 🎤 auld lang syne 友谊万岁 upon embarkation, with you playing the harmonica, in front of an unsuspecting audience was truly amazing and really touching indeed.
To sum it all up, it was an absolutely rewarding and heartwarming experience.
How I wish we had more time to catch up and reminisce on the good old days.
Those were the days when everything seemed to be better. Where the grass was always greener, the skies were so much bluer and the smiles were simply brighter……………..

A big thank you to Chong See Kui organizer and team leader, also best wishes to all. We thoroughly enjoyed the 6 days cruise especially the ship’s spacious stateroom. It has given us the opportunity to reminisce with family and friends whom we have not seen for a while, as well as the chance to tour and sample local cuisine at ports of call. We also took a side trip to Brunei fulfilling Ong Lee’s wishes to see his older brother and ailing sister-in-law. On the negative side our gripe was difficulty to assemble due to the mega size ship and large crowd.               By: 廖安宜,曹雪儒

Our sincere appreciations go to Chong See Kui who spent countless of hours booking and organizing the cruise and further more a caring cruise leader especially to the elderly and handicapped. We wish all cruisers well. The mini reunion was a success. It has provided us the opportunity to catch-up with family, old friends and schoolmates as well as allowing us to tour Penang and Phuket. The ships amenities were great except the locations of the toilets were a bit too far away from the restaurants. However, we were able to take advantage of the air fare and flew to Kuching to see Willie’s ailing brother who later succumbed to cancer. By: 曹吉賢,蔡如意

In November 2013 my Wife and I joined first KBCHMS alumni reunion cruise on the Mariner of the Seas for a similar itinerary. There were only 6 of us, Chiew Chee Phoong and his Sister Chiew Ling Fang, Chong See Kui and his Sister Chong Kui Yin, my Wife and I. Being a small group together we enjoyed all the on board faculties and entertainment and all the meals together. It was a such a memorial reunion, we decided to join this second reunion cruise on board a larger ship The Ovation of the Seas with even a larger group of 22 alumni! We also met 4 alumni from KB, and Thng Tiam Chai, formerly from KB , but now lives in Singapore.

Large group is more difficult to manage, like the Chow & the Chong families who like to spend more time together and foster of this large cruise ship and they would like to sample every entertainment and organized activities. however we have dinner every might together to catch up the daily adventure and sharing experience. I am very happy that everything was well organized like a clock work, swift & smooth checked in, supported with assisted wheel chairs for boarding and disembarkation , even booking 2 large MPV sending us home or to hotels safely. Thank you very much to the organizers.

Editor’s  comments:-

The original idea of organising this cruise reunion was initiated by Chow Ji Liang 曹吉 良 so that his siblings could encourage  their elder brother Chow Ji Wah 曹吉華 to take his first cruise vacation. Unfortunately, while on vacation in Panama City, Panama Kat’s wife fell and fractured her kneecap which required immediate surgery, therefore, they had to cancel the cruise.

Later on I picked up this wonderful idea encouraging my siblings to join this reunion via the high Seas of the Strait of Malacca. The first one to put her hands up was my eldest sister Chong Nyuk Ching  張玉𡛧 who is 86 years old and depending on  wheel chair assistance all the time.  She said that if it is not now when? With that kind of positive motivation statement everyone of her sibling joined up including her youngest sister, Vivien Chong  張微雯 from Melbourne, Australia. Our Nephew Yapp Yuen Fui 葉運輝 also joined in the fun from New Zealand.

I like to thank all of the cruise members who joined this mini reunion and I believe everyone has enjoyed this once in our life time adventure to spend 6 wonderful days together, catching up with untold stories, sharing jokes, enjoy all 3 meals every day.

We all have our favorite restaurants &  spots on board, and entertainment to experience, everyone or a group of good family clans here and there  trying  something new every minute of the days & nights. I observed that a few suddenly disappeared trying out-of-the-box experiences hence missing out some of the group photos sessions.

Taking a cruise reunion is the kind of vacation experience where fond memories are made.

There were 22 of us trying to have fun together most of the time but if you felt that you have been left out for a moment or two, I like to apologise to you for I have tried my best to spread my energy around as much as possible, even sitting at different tables trying to listen for better ideas on organizing skills. It is still not too late to complain, you are welcome to express your feedback  in the space after the “comment”.

I have selected a few of my favourite condid camera shots for your entertainment:-
