Greetings from Perth, Australia.

Thank you for allowing me to write a few words on your eighth School Reunion Anniversary.

And on behalf of all the alumni our heartfelt gratitude toward the organising committee for setting this major and most memorable milestone in life.

Now through this platform, we can all share our living legacy and take a delightful trip down memory lane…..

A big thank you to the editorial backroom volunteers for keeping this memory alive in your eBook, Memories Of The Way We Were, where we can find more than 130 publications and hundreds of historical photos available online for many generations!  Good job brother!👏👏

憶起2012年奕中校友返校聯歡會，心中非常感謝發起人及協助籌備的人員，才能促成聯歡會的成功舉辦！許多久未見面的老朋友、老同學齊聚ㄧ堂，互相交流，彼此分享近況，實屬難能可貴，也在當日留下珍貴的照片！往日的情懷,永留心中！祝福大家在疫情期間保持愉快心情,保重身體！

I still remember 8 years ago; 7^th October 2012 my parents attended the alumni gathering at KB Chung Hwa School Kuala Belait. My father, Shim Wei Shang沈维潛, was the first batch of the graduates in 1947, so he is considered as a senior Alumni. My mother, Chong Kui Yin张贵英, was also a graduate of the same school and she was nominated as the team leader among the working committee. She was very busy all through the day and night. 

I attended the functions with my parents so I decided to bring along my little daughter, Chloe, who was just 4 years old attending preschool. I thought she would enjoy a large group of gathering in a large Chinese school. She really enjoyed the young students on stage dances, the music and martial art performances. She went straight to the front of the when her grand-uncle Johnny Chong, performing his magic show, her favurite magician.

Out of Chloe curiosity, she asked why there were many gong gong and popo in the school. I explained to her that they were the school alumni, especially the elders, formed into small groups, talking about their old-time stories when they were little kids, laughing aloud and most of them hugged each other because they had not met each other more than 20 years!  Chloe was watching that closely and she would rush forward to huge her Grandfather and Grandmother, her grand uncles and aunties whenever they were nearby.  She turned around and showed me the big smile. I knew she was enjoying the event.

There were many collections of old photos displayed which showed quite a few of mum and dad when they were young. Chloe was very surprised to see that her popo (grandma) was so slim and pretty and gong gong (grandpa) young and handsome. She almost dragged me along going around from one photo display board to another, pointing her little fingers at some familiar faces of her grand uncles and aunty. There were one particular photo of popo standing with her friends and she was enjoying her bottle of soft drinks.

Chloe was very much surprise that her gong gong was invited to the front of the stage and received a scarf and not other gong gong and popo. She did not realize the giving scarf ceremony was to honour the longevity of the alumni who were 80 years and above.

Just 2 days ago I was asking Chloe if she still remembered this event. To my surprise, she still remembers meeting many popo and gong gong’s friends. She said “I remember the magic Kiew Gong (Johnny Chong) playing magic on stage, and she was standing in front as usual amazed to his magic show.

Until today, this special reunion gathering of memories promised to us all (within in our own family legacy) a glimpse of our parents smiling through these photos during their younger days. They kept a large collection of their life time stories in real photos so that we (the Shim family legacy) can all look back and remember their good old days.
