My life experience with Covid19
I would Like to share this experience with everyone.
There are 5 of us living in a house, my son and his wife, my elder sister, younger daughter and I. We employ a part time house maid who comes 3 days a week to do the heavy house works. This maid is very hard working for another house the other 4 days.
Since the pandemic of Covid19 all of us had been extra careful staying indoor most of the time except going out once week for shopping for essential food.
We have followed the guidelines from the Thai Health Authority, wearing face masks, avoiding crowded places, Keeping Social Distance. We have 3 cars therefore we do not have a take public bus or taxi.
I am a professional Yoga teacher and managing a yoga school and author of yoga news for weekly newspaper. I must suspend the operation of the yoga school temporary as per instructions from the authorities.
Tuesday 29 June 2021 A day of shocking news!!!
On June 29, 2021, the maid called to tell me that she developed fever, a sore throat, and a headache and she went to the hospital for a checkup. She was confirmed infected with Corona’s Virus, and she was admitted for further treatment according to the procedure.
Wednesday 30 June 2021
The following day, my elder sister and I started to have some fever and sore throat which we think have similar symptoms to that of our maid. So, we went to the hospital for a coronavirus swab-test. We were advised to stay home as an isolating quarantine. That was a panicking situation for all of us, not knowing what to do.
We tried to isolate ourselves at home; avoiding sleeping in air-conditioned rooms, drinking lots and lots of water, getting enough rest, avoiding meetings indoors, eating separate meals, taking medicines for Fever and Thai herbal medicine called in Thai Fah Talai Jone or (Andrographis paniculata). We began praying for guidance and support from God.
Later on, that day I have more other symptoms: runny nose and a cough, and I feel my breathing is not full in each times.
Thursday 1 July 2021
The next day, we were told that the test results confirmed that we were positive for coronavirus, except my youngest daughter, she was safe from coronavirus.
Friday 2 July 2021
We managed to pack a few personal things and the 4 of us admitted to 4 different hotels converted into makeshift hospital for coronavirus cases.
I stayed at the hotel (which you can see in the pictures.) Luckily my eldest daughter took out an AIA insurance policy for me and this include health coverage hospitalization and all medical treatment.
Upon arrival I was briefed the strict isolating regulations, one person one room, stay inside the room and the daily meals will be delivered and placed outside the door. No visitor allowed except medical/health staff.
(for the following 13 days between 2 – 15 July 2021.)
My son and his wife Stayed separated at different hotel, according to the social security allocation. I am sure they must be very unhappy because this is the first time, they ever separated from each other for such a long while. They have no choice, but they understand the danger of this pandemic
My sister was separated to another health center where my maid went to for treatment.
However, we could use our mobile phones to always keep in touch with each other. We also managed to have free Wi-Fi for making video conference call.
I was able to continue my yoga exercises in my hotel room, after about a week of treatment. I only choose some Yoga poses that would improve my breathing and expanding lungs.
For my son and his wife including my sister and maid. They probably didn’t do that because their accommodation wasn’t as comfortable as mine.
But after we returned home and quarantined for another 14 days each. I was able to teach them to practice the simple yoga poses that would help with their breathing and lungs as well. They told me that their breathing had improved a lot.
Saturday 3 July 2021
The initial medical treatments are as follows: –
1 lung x-ray.
2. Get “Favipiravir” medicine to help treat the coronavirus from getting into the lungs. Take 2 times a day, morning, and evening after meals.
3. Have a fever test and measure the oxygen on the finger every morning in the morning
4. For me, being a yoga teacher I have used my knowledge of yoga to help my breathing, expanding my lungs, ribs, to breath in more oxygen .
5. I started having more symptoms. Tired. The nose is devoid of any sense of smell, but the tongue is still able to sense the taste of food, and frequent excretion
6. Had a second X-ray of the lungs after 4 days of drug treatment.
7 X-ray results. The doctor said that I started to have a small amount of white melasma in my lungs from this germ. Doctors prescribed 5 days of Favipiravir for my son and his wife , but being 69 years old, I’m in the high-risk category. The doctor prescribed my sister and I to take Favipiravir for another 5 days to improve my immunity.
Sunday 4 – Wednesday 14 July 2021
After receiving treatment and symptomatic drug therapy that happened to me. After the 10th day my nose started to smell better, no fever, full lung breathing, no sore throat, less cough and normal bowel movements.
Had the 3rd X-ray before going home.
Thursday 15 July 2021
We are very happy to return home, but we continue to practice self-isolate at home for another 14 days to ensure our safety.
Summarizes my overall symptoms during the first 1 – 4 days for the first stage:3
Our family assessed how our maid were infected with COVID. Because she usually doesn’t go anywhere other than to go to work in each house. When finished, go home. We can sum it up as follows :-
1. From a motorcycle taxi where she used the service from house to house.
2. From parcels, letters, and custom-made deliveries. She went out to pick up the deliveries. After receiving it, she placed it, continue working in a house ahead. Not very interested in cleaning her hands after receiving the items.
3. Sometimes she walks to the convenience store in front of the house or 7-11.
I’m not a writer. But I hope my experience with COVID-19 will be of some benefits to you. My family and I may not have a very serious condition. Probably because we went to get checked and treated quickly.
I wish everyone to be safe from covid-19 and happy.
My family and I would like to express our gratitude e to the Government of Thailand, the Ministry of Health, those doctors, nurses and staff who have in the COVD-19 recovering centers. We all understand that that they are very dedicated, working long hours and tried helping all of us in great danger. We sincerely acknowledge the contribution of all the health care professionals involved in the care of the patients with COVID-19
