Q. DESCRIBE YOUR FAVOURITE SCHOOL MEMORY
After 11 years of being in Chung Hua, I have been through hardships and class problems but have made thrilling memories that will last a lifetime. My favourite memory that I made throughout the 11 years was during the CHMS KB annual basketball inter-house competition held in 2021. This competition was held during the 2021 December holidays as the lockdown was still happening in Brunei, so nobody could leave the country. I was the chosen representative for the Red House team girl’s captain. Our team’s name was Red Riding Hood. We had practised for months prior to this competition. The competition lasted for 3 days and somehow, our team made it to the finals. We were up against Blue House and it was anyone’s game at that moment, as both teams had beaten the other 2 houses. The ambience on the last day was incredible. As we stepped into the hall, all we could hear were screams and cheers.

After some of the other matches had finished, it was finally our turn. We stretched and mentally prepared ourselves. At this point, the hall was filled with people from parents, teachers and even students from other schools. I felt immensely nervous and pressured to make my team proud. When we stepped onto the court, everyone cheered for us and we started off by wishing well to the other team.

I was part of the starting 5. As the referee tipped the ball, the match started. I ran around the court, playing as harshly and bravely as possible. I kept an eye on the ball and made sure to be a team player. After the first 2 quarters, I managed to score 10 points and had many rebounds.
During the last quarter, both the Red House and Blue House only had a point difference of 3, with the Blue House leading. We took a break, and during that short time, we motivated each other so we can play as hard as possible in the final round. Everyone promised to do their best. Then, it began. The hall was roaring with screams after each score.
Towards the end of the match, I had already fouled many times so it was now up to my team to finish it off. At this point, it was still anyone’s game. During the last 3 seconds, my teammates scored and we won by 2 points. Our team ran into the court, cheering with happiness. The crowd went crazy after the intense last-minute clutch.

This will go on to be my favourite memory in school for a long time. Even after injuries and being drained out of energy, we succeeded in the end. The feeling of giving my team a group hug as everyone cheered us on will always be my favourite memory that I will cherish. As we were given the gold medal for being first, I was also named the MVP (most valuable player) of our team.
