Today, May 2, 2025, marks the 68th Anniversary of Radio Brunei. The first DJ was Dayangku Intan. She switched on the studio microphone and announced “Ini lah Radio Brunei”; her voice echoed with excitement nationwide. This began a journey that saw Radio Brunei’s role in shaping our shared national identity. It provided syndicated news, sports, and music that became a part of our daily lives. For many countries, radio was the fastest, most reliable way to receive updates about national and world events. Even today, it remains a relevant form of mass communication. It is among the few free services available to anyone with a receiver. To make this service more accessible, one of the local commercial firms was authorized to import portable transistor radio receivers. These were then sold to the public in installments, making them affordable at just $5 per month.
