WW2 in South-East Asia | Battle of Borneo (1941-1942)

The land on the Island of Borneo is primarily of the Jungle, the population is estimated less than 3 million, it was rich in oil and primary resources. The island was partly British Borneo (Brunei, North Borneo and Sarawak) and partly Dutch Borneo (Kalimantan). The Japanese Military prime objective interest was the oil fields in the North (Miri and Seria) and the West side of Dutch Borneo.

Dutch Preparations: There were oil and airfields in Tarakan & Balikpapan, and the Dutch militaries with limited accessories were trying to deny the Japanese access to these oil fields in Banjarmasin, Pontianak.

The Japanese Military Preparation invade British Borneo Starting to control Seria Oil fields in Brunei and Miri Oil field in Sarawak simultaneously from the South China Sea.

In 1942, when the Japanese Military landed in Miri then to Seria, I was 6 years old. There were no radio or newspapers at that time, so we did not hear about this World War II got so close to home at Kuala Belait.

I was in Kuala Belait with my parents and my 7 siblings. My younger brother Johnny Chong Ah Jew, was just born then.

This short Chinese Transcriptions is for the Senior Alumni ( 80 to 90+) who were born in the 1930’s. They were the former students of Chung Hua School, Kuala Belait. These Alumni are scarterred all over the world, Australia, Canada, China (Hong Kong), Malaysia, New Zealand, Singappore, UK, USA and Brunei. Majority of them were initially educated in Chinese schools. Most of them did experienced the Japanese invation of Brunei, Miri, and Sabah so this is for them to understand the Battle of Borneo (1941-1942.
